Reviving RC Legends: MasterClass Season 2 Takes on Warbird Plane Rehab

Season 2 of the MasterClass series launches with an exciting new focus: bringing old, neglected RC airplanes back to life. Hosts Joshua and Brian kick things off by diving into plane rehab—from repairing damaged components to restoring classic kits sitting on hobby shop shelves, swap tables, or forgotten garage racks. This season is designed for builders of every skill level, whether you're a brand-new pilot or a seasoned craftsman.

The episode begins with summer project updates. Brian proudly shares that he successfully flew—and occasionally crashed—his beginner plane while rejuvenating his wood shop to finish his Minuette build. Joshua, on the other hand, spent his summer rehabbing everything from a quarter-scale Falcon to an Old School Model Works Chaos 60 and a Top Flite Bonanza V-tail.

The Featured Project: A Weathered AT-6 Texan Warbird

The centerpiece of Season 2 is a dusty, forgotten AT-6 Texan warbird rediscovered in the Dubro warehouse. With missing parts, worn-out covering, corrosion concerns, a damaged fuselage, and outdated electronics, the aircraft presents the perfect challenge for a detailed restoration walkthrough.

The Texan’s history is intertwined with DU-BRO itself, and its original builder—though unknown—was part of the company’s legacy. Because of that connection, Joshua approaches the restoration with a methodical balance of preservation and modernization. Historical elements, such as its “ugly muffler,” will be kept for authenticity, while structural and flight-critical parts will be upgraded.

Parts, Repairs & DU-BRO Essentials

Throughout the episode, Joshua highlights must-have upgrade components that every RC rebuilder should consider. The Texan already carries a DU-BRO fuel tank, but plenty of additional DU-BRO parts are used to bring the aircraft back to flight-ready condition:

These upgrades replace degraded foam, brittle hinges, bent horns, and outdated components—helping ensure safe, dependable flight performance. Meanwhile, the engine, an OS glow model, is heavily gummed up and will receive a full teardown and rebuild in a future episode. The team also swaps the outdated FM receiver for a modern 2.4 GHz system and installs a Master Airscrew 16×6 propeller for improved efficiency.

A Season Focused on Learning and Restoring

The Texan restoration isn't just about making one plane airworthy again—it’s about teaching viewers how to tackle their own rehab projects. From sourcing AMA plans to choosing the right covering (Aerotex) to balancing preservation with performance, this season equips RC builders with the confidence to take on flea-market finds, swap-meet gems, or aging hangar queens.

Whether you're chasing the nostalgia of a classic warbird or learning essential repair techniques, MasterClass Season 2 is packed with hands-on knowledge, historical appreciation, and plenty of DU-BRO craftsmanship.
