David Gray Inducted into AMA Hall of Fame8/25/2008 |
Charlie Bauer, Vice President of AMA District 6, presented David Gray with a plaque as his ceremonial admission into the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) Hall of Fame. The AMA felt compelled to honor Gray since he has contributed so much to the advancement of the model industry through his designs and inventions. For more than 35 years, Gray’s accomplishments can be seen in product designs for DU-BRO Products, all the way up to being recognized and displayed by the Smithsonian Institute. David Gray was credited with inventing and flying the first radio control helicopter in 1970. The Smithsonian has since kept the original on display and notes David as it’s inventor. Today, David still works part time for DU-BRO Products as a designer and is an integral part of the product development team. As modelers, we all owe David a debt of gratitude, and chances are that if you fly any radio controlled aircraft, you have something that he has designed.
